Being president is a complex and difficult job. The President has a multitude of responsibilities. He is the Chief Executive in that he overseas the entire bureaucracy of the Philippine government. He is the foremost architect of our foreign policy. He is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. But as President, he has to be kind of a salesman too.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is one chief executive who does not sit back and rest on his laurels. The Philippine economy may have grown by 7.6 percent in 2022, the fastest in nearly four decades, but with the still high inflation rate across the nation, President Marcos knows too well that not everybody is enjoying the benefits of the economic recovery.
We are back. The Philippine economy beat expectations by recording a spectacular growth of 7.2 percent in the last quarter of 2022. This in turn contributed to a 7.6 percent growth for the whole year. This was nothing short of astounding in the face of the debilitating impact of the pandemic, the continuing increase in the prices of goods, and the protracted conflict in Ukraine.
