125 Years of Service

I congratulate the Manila Bulletin as it celebrates its 125th founding anniversary! It is amazing to think that the Manila Bulletin started as a shipping journal on Feb. 2, 1900 with its avowed purpose of giving “the public accurate and reliable shipping and commercial information.”

One hundred and twenty five years later, the Manila Bulletin is still standing and continues to provide the Filipino nation with accurate and relevant information.

With the exception of the four years during the Japanese occupation and a minor interlude during the declaration of Martial Law, the Manila Bulletin came out every day, strengthening our democracy, contributing to national development and more importantly, upholding the truth and the tenets of journalism.

This outstanding feat—celebrating The 125th—is made more spectacular given the many challenges the Manila Bulletin has faced and continue to face.

In the midst of the advent of new communications technology, the rise of social media as a news source, and the constant assault on traditional journalism, the Manila Bulletin never wavered  on its commitment to the Filipino people.

Congratulations, Manila Bulletin!

Maraming salamat sa inyong walang humpay na paglilingkod sa bayan!
